In-house DevOps: the real cost

Per DOU data, DevOps salaries in Ukraine in 2026: Junior — about $14,000/year, Middle — ~$35,000/year, Senior — from $60,000/year. But salary isn't the full cost:

• taxes and contributions on top

How to calculate ROI

Compare total cost of ownership, not "salary vs invoice." An in-house Senior at ~$60k/year + taxes + hiring + SPOF risk is often more expensive than an outsourcing team that costs a predictable fee, is available 24/7 and never goes on vacation. For SMBs and startups that need reliable infra but not a full-time engineer, outsourcing almost always wins.

What to choose

Stable heavy load and a constant flow of infra tasks — in-house makes sense. A one-off task with clear scope — a freelancer. Reliable infrastructure without hiring cost and risk — DevOps outsourcing. Most Ukrainian SMBs and startups fall into the third category.
